Making Of a Custom Bridal Necklace with Glass Hortensias and Pink Roses

Création d'un collier de mariée sur mesure : Hortensias et roses en verre

Every bridal bouquet I recreate in glass tells a story, and it is a joy to preserve the memory of one of the most beautiful days of your life.

In this article, I invite you to follow each step of this bespoke creation, where soft blues and pale pinks come together to bring the flowers to life once more.

Step 1

Understanding her vision

The client wished for a piece that felt both modern and timeless, a necklace that would echo her wedding flowers while beautifully complementing her Bardot neckline, all while remaining a wearable heirloom.

She imagined soft blues and gentle pinks, colours that could stand on their own, elevate her everyday style, or harmonise seamlessly with her bridal attire.

We explored both the Blossom Drop pendant and the fully beaded Blossom Knot necklace. The latter is inspired by the romantic elegance of vintage knotted pearl necklaces. She was drawn to something remarkable yet soft and elegant, and together we decided that the Blossom Knot design would be perfect for her romantic bridal neckline.

Step 2

Design and sketching

With the vision clarified, the next step was to consider the flowers themselves and how they could be recreated in glass. When I work on a flower variety for the first time, it can take weeks of trial and error to capture the right petal shapes and placements.

In this case, her bouquet of blue hortensias and soft pink roses was already familiar to me in glass, which allowed us to move directly into colour research.

I then sketched and mapped the placement of each flower along the 16 mm beads, carefully considering their type, colour, and size to create a balanced and harmonious composition.

Balancing botanical realism with wearability is always essential. Each flower needs its own moment to shine, while the sequence of beads must allow the necklace to drape gracefully around the neckline.

Step 3

Creating the First Botanical Glass Details

All of our glass flowers are created one petal at a time, using a combination of delicate glassworking techniques.

These methods require extensive preparation. Hundreds of glass “stringers,” or fine threads, are pulled, and for the tight, swirled centre of the rose, a highly detailed glass murrini cane is created. This cane allows me to recreate, in miniature, the tightly layered petals found at the heart of the rose.

Each of these intricate canes can take hours, and sometimes days, to create by hand.

Step 4

Client satisfaction is always my highest priority

At this stage, I created sample glass flowers and beads for the client to review and approve, ensuring the colours, scale, and overall feeling were perfectly aligned with her vision before moving forward.

Step 5

Bead production

Once the client approved the sample beads, there was no turning back on the design or flower choices. This marked the beginning of full bead production.

In this case, the process took several weeks, as nearly 190 tiny glass flowers were created, along with their accompanying miniature foliage. Each botanical detail demands patience and precision as I work to recreate the bouquet as faithfully as possible. Some of the glass threads used to achieve this level of finesse are so fine they are barely visible to the eye.

I have been perfecting miniature glass flower techniques for over 20 years, allowing me to create a piece that is truly unforgettable.

Step 6

Assembling the jewellery

Once all the glass beads were completed and approved again by the client, they were carefully placed in the agreed sequence. At this stage, the overall design is fixed, but if a particular bead does not feel quite right, it can still be recreated before assembly.

To recreate the timeless appealof vintage knotted pearls with the Blossom Knot design, I selected a thick silk cord in a colour that blends seamlessly with the foliage of the glass bouquet.

Each bead was then carefully knotted into place, slowly revealing the final piece. Once the necklace was finished, I sent additional photographs to the client for one last approval before shipping it to her via express carrier.

Step 7

The signature of craftsmanship

As with all my creations, the jewellery was hallmarked with my bespoke stamp. This is a legal requirement in France and guarantees that the piece is made from genuine precious metal and crafted by me.

Step 8

The final reveal
